Dr. Shao has broad interest in the interaction between light and small scale structures. Currently he is working on projects in plasmonics, metal colloids, nanofabrication, laser tweezing, optomechanics, and numerical techniques.
Dr. Shao is author of over 70 refereed publications with a total citation of over 4,000 times, and has 2 issued patents. His publications in high-impact journal such as Nature and Nature Nanotechnology have been highlighted by over 20 popular press articles published in media such as Nanotechweb.org, Materials Views, Science Daily, etc.
